The long-awaited next edition of Japan's most famous dictionary, 広辞苑 (Kojien) is on its way. The Kojien 6th Edition will be released on January 11, 2008, ten years after the release of the 5th edition.
The sixth edition contains 10,000 entries over its last incarnation, totalling in at 240,000. And you thought the only word for delicious was おいしい?
Kojien is also packing modern terms such as ニート, ブログ, and うざい into its pages with this version.

Thanks for the news. It's very welcome that they're updating the dictionary to include more modern terms and modern usages of previous entries. Still, the biggest problem I have with the 広辞苑 is that it doesn´t include much example sentences.
The 精選版 日本国語大辞典 that came out a while ago, and is included in the Casio XD-GW6900 electronic dictionary should be better in this regard, as it contains 300.000 entries and an equal number of example sentences. It's much more expensive than the 広辞苑 in paper form though, so the digital version is quite a bargain. I recently ordered the Casio XD-GW6900, so I'll soon get a chance to test it's usefulness.
By the way, it seems like the digital version of the new 広辞苑 is a better deal than the paper one, as it'll include more single character definitions and pictures, and even videos and voice recordings.
Hi, I am a beginner in Jap language. Can you tell me please which of these two NDS software would be more suitable for me? (I don't know how to read the description and the Jap-Eng translator seems to give weird translations.)

I would definitely stay far away from 読めそうで読めない漢字DS. From the looks of it, this title will be for advanced users only. I think it will even give native speakers a major headache.
なぞっておぼえる 大人の漢字練習 完全版 is probably your best bet as it will teach you how to write the characters and how to read them one by one. But keep in mind you will have to deal with advanced menus. Once you get used to it, though, it shouldn't be too difficult.
