More Tokoton 2 Details

As reported in an earlier article, IE Institute is releasing a sequel to its first Tokoton Kanji Kentei prep software this winter. A few more details have been released, and it looks like Tokoton 2 will be packing some excellent features.

-47,000 questions
-A joyo kanji dictionary with 2,230 entries (meaning it's not only joyo kanji, albeit its name)
-A 四字熟語 (four kanji compound idiom) dictionary
-The most absurdly long title of any game (anything!?) ever created:
財団法人日本漢字能力検定協会公式ソフト 250万人の漢検 新とことん漢字脳 47,000+常用漢字辞典 四字熟語辞典

Now that's a mouthfull!

Plus, if you preorder at Amazon, you can get a nifty case for your DS Lite.

This looks as though it could be good! Better than Kanken 2? I hope the kanji dictionary has meanings in there, and the yojijukugo dico is excellent news.

I'm looking forward to 読めそうで読めない漢字DS as well (and its review!).

I'm very curious to see how this compares to Kanken DS 2 as well. I always found the first Tokoton game to be inferior to Kanken DS based mostly on the presentation of the software. I also thought Tokoton made some bad choices with font and text size. I hope they learned from their mistakes.

I wonder what the odds are that the yonji-jukugo dictionary will have English definitions. I'm guessing none, but will anticipate the review.

coal,
Depending on the quality of the English translations, it could easily end up a double-edged sword. ;)

I'm looking forward to picking up Tokoton 2, but it's coming out the same day as Super Mario Galaxy, so I may be a little...um...late with the review.

It doesn't look like the kanji dictionary will have meanings, as it is specifically mentioned on the product page that the yojijukugo jiten will (in addition to containing antonyms and synonyms, which are very welcome indeed).

I just found out that on the 29th of November DS陰山メソッド 正しい漢字かきとりくん 今度は漢検対策だよ! will be coming out. Judging from the screenshots on Amazon.co.jp, it appears a dictionary will be included and you will be able to look up meanings. Furigana seem to be included as well. Unlike it's predecessor, this game will not only be geared towards children, as you will be able to practice for kanken tests from levels 10 to 2. It will contain 8000 questions. This is looking very nice indeed.

nanigashi,

That sounds pretty cool! The screenshots look pretty nice. I'll have to do a little poking around.

The amazon.co.jp page that you linked to says that this item can only be shipped within Japan.

Anywhere else that this and other items mentioned here can be purchased in the US?

I myself use http://www.play-asia.com/ and http://global.yesasia.com/.
Both have a diverse amount of DS software in stock, and ship worldwide.

I just got my DS! I got paneldepon to uh... play... with...

In addition to Kanken2! I just got them both last night so haven't really gotten into them yet, but I did the self assessment on Kanken2, and the hand writing recognition is amazing.

Also, my kanji writing skills are amazingly bad. This is going to give me a good workout!
