2007 JLPT Applications Available

Applications for the 2007 Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) are currently available at bookstores and other locations around the country.

The deadline for applications is September 11, 2007.

The test date is December 2, 2007, and it costs 5,500yen ( approx. $45) to take the test.

Good luck to anybody taking the test! If you plan on taking it, let us know which level you're taking and what you're doing to study.

You can find more information here (English) or here (Japanese).

I might take the level 4 this year, even if I'm not ready.

It's been years since I took the test (passed level 2 in 2000) but way back when I was told that level 4 was super simple. I took level 3 once and it wasn't too bad either. There is a big jump between 3 and 2 though! What I'm trying to say though is that you might want to skip level 4 and try level 3, even if you don't think you're ready yet. Of course, practice tests will give you a good idea.

I really want to take 3q this year but I am having difficulty in finding study time or online practice exams. I took care of 4q in 2003 but doing 3q AND not being in the Japanese is a bit taxing for me.

*Btw I went to the Japan Foundation website however the 2007 JLPT app wasn't up yet. Has anyone else discovered that? I know it is always up and running for Japan (as in early) but when will the US app be available?

I took and passed level 1 on my first try back in 2001, back when we didn't have these fancy DS thingamabobs. :) I used workbooks from Amazon Japan: 日本語能力試験に出る[文法/漢字/文字・語彙]1級 and 日本語能力試験1級に出る重要単. Four books in all. As I recall, they're available for the other levels, too.
