Awesome. I might have to import this game now. The main problem I have when reading Japanese is the vast amount of kanji that I don't know, so having those pop-ups would be a great way for me to learn some new ones.
My copy arrived late last Thursday. I've only gotten a few hours into it because of work, but it is great so far. My knowledge of grammar and vocabulary are just barely at the minimum level to read this game - which makes it perfect! The furigana are really useful, especially when you cheat - I bought a second DS so I could run Nihongo-soko-mama-rakubiki-jiten while I play ^_^
The added challenge seems to make the game a little more fun too. The first puzzle, which I wouldn't even have thought about in English, was an ordeal in Japanese. My relief when I figured out what I was supposed to do matched the increased difficulty though. I don't think I've ever been so excited about counting palm trees!
I'm a little worried about cut scenes though. The opening cut scene had a lot of text, but it scrolled at its own pace. I didn't really catch any of the opening. It could be a problem latter in the game, but hopefully by then I will have picked up at least enough of the key words that I can keep up.

kyle,
I'm glad to hear you're excited about the kanji help that Zelda DS provides. Let us know if you get the game and how you enjoy playing it!
Sure thing!
Just found the site from a link on Kotaku, and I've been loving it. Keep up the good work!
Hey, I just found your site! Little world, huh? Thanks for the credit! (^_^)
kyle,
Thanks for the words of encouragement!
akotan,
Great job putting that video up on YouTube where non-Japanese speakers can find it as well! Gotta love the Internet!
Any idea what the kanji is that I have to write on the sign to get the sword in the cave?
If I recall correctly, all you have to do to solve the puzzle is write "7".
